Update for 2019/20...
We commenced our new season at the beginning of September by welcoming our new Associate Conductor Craig Stevens, following the departure of Gary Rose. We were very sorry to loose Gary who was originally looking to emigrate to Canada. However, we are very much looking forward to having Craig who is no stranger to the band having played on numerous occasions in the past. He brings a wealth of conducting experience and is combining this role with being the MD of the Gresley Colliery Band who he has recently taken into the second section. Craig will be working with John Broadhurst (MD) for the coming season's programme.
On the playing front we said 'farewell' during last season to Duncan Cameron (Euphonium) after a number of years with the band. Duncan is taking 'time-out' and is looking to go travelling with his wife. In his place we welcome Keith Loxley, a widely experienced player well known within SA circles. Keith has also previously played with the band, renewing his partnership with Andy Scott from their 'Enfield' days. Carmen Smith (baritone) is currently on maternity leave. The trombone section is strengthened by two additions - Daniel Thompson who joined the band early last season and has recently been appointed principal trombone with the Enderby Band. Additionally, Eleanor Hammond joins on second trombone. Both are currently studying at Leicester University and will greatly enhance the section sitting either side of the experienced Steve Grainger and Gordon Camsey.
Again the band has a full programme and is looking forward to visiting Stapleford SA, Tunstall SA and a return visit to Sapcote Methodist after a 10 year gap! Other venues include Rushden SA (3rd visit), the annual participation at the Whit Friday Marches and ending the year with a summer concert (Leicester SA) having the renown Euphonium soloist - Derek Kane as its guest soloist. (Check our diary for specific dates.)
